Owned by Baptist Mid-Missions since 1962, Missionary Acres provides affordable housing and continued ministry opportunities for retired missionaries, pastors, and career Christian workers. It may be called retirement, but the people who live here haven't stopped serving God — they simply no longer do it vocationally.
How the Acres Came to Be
The vision for a caring, independent-living retirement community began with Pastor Charles Emerson. He and his family purchased more than sixty acres in Wayne County, Missouri, built a chapel, and began ministering to the local community.
Health problems kept Brother Emerson from seeing his vision through to completion. Not wanting to give up on it, he graciously donated the land to Baptist Mid-Missions.
Baptist Mid-Missions has continued developing the property, carrying forward the vision Brother Emerson began. Today, Missionary Acres provides affordable housing for respected heroes of the faith who find rest and community here.
Independent, Community Living
Residents come and go as they please. They travel and serve the Lord as they're able, knowing their home will be safe and secure when they return — with plenty of fellowship among staff and residents alike.
Supported by Giving
To keep costs to residents as low as possible, the staff at Missionary Acres is entirely supported by churches and individuals. That giving allows the staff to meet residents' needs and maintain the acres.
Rooted in Local Church
Evangel Baptist Church is on-site, though not everyone at the Acres attends this specific church. With decades of ministry experience among them, many residents serve and worship in different churches throughout the community.
